At UFC 171, Rick Story found himself on the losing end of a split decision for the third time in his UFC career. Debuting UFC judges Mike Gonzalez and Aladin Martin sided with Story's opponent Kelvin Gastelum, while veteran UFC adjudicator Douglas Crosby favoured Story.

Seven out of the twelve media scorers tracked by MMADecisions.com for the fight had Story winning a 29-28 decision.

Of the 52 fan scorecards submitted to the site so far, 48% have Gastelum winning, 42% have Story winning, and 10% scored the fight a draw.

Story joins Clay Guida as the only fighters who have lost three split decisions within the Octagon.

Aside from Story and Guida, Gleison Tibau and Sam Stout are the only fighters to have fought to at least five UFC split decisions.
